Retards light by one full wavelength (also called a full wave plate or sensitive tint plate)
Linearly polarized white light becomes elliptically polarized. Light in the 540nm range remains linear. A second linear polarizer (“analyzer”) oriented perpendicular to the original polarization causes the “green” wavelength to be extinguished while all other colors remain for observation. The result is other colors appearing against a background with an intense shade of red-violet (sometimes referred to as magenta).
