- May be used in combination with a polarizer (oriented at 90° to each other, a.k.a. crossed polars) to observe optical characteristics of specimens known to have birefringence (different optical paths)
- Installs in the analyzer slot located in the nosepiece (must remove or open the nosepiece plug)
- Requires a polarizer for polarized light observation (CAT # 500-3228-POL or 500-3230)
